Aadhaar card is a 12 digit individual identification number which serves as proof of identity and proof of address for residents of India. Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident in India and satisfies the verification process laid down by the UIDAI can enroll for Aadhaar. Aadhaar number is unique for each individual and will remain valid for life time. Aadhaar number will help the residents to avail various services provided by banking, mobile phone connections and other Govt and Non-Govt services in due course.
If you have recently change your name or you have recently got married and wants change your surname and wants to change your address according to the marriage certificate then you can update it via Aadhaar self service portal but remember that you need to have the number that you have registered at the time of making Aadhaar card if you have the number then you can update it by following below given steps:-
Steps for updating Aadhaar Card Online
1 Go to Aadhaar self service portal
To update Aadhaar online you need to go to official website. Where you need to click on "Proceed to Update Aadhaar" Button.
2 Enter your Aadhaar Number
After clicking on "Proceed to Update Aadhaar" button you will be directed to update Aadhaar page where you will be asked to enter your Aadhaar card number after this you need to enter the captcha that is showing on right side, if you are not able to read the captcha or the captcha image is corrupted then you need to click on captcha reload button. After entering the captcha successfully you need to click on "Send OTP" Button.
3 Enter the OTP
To update your Aadhaar card you must have registered mobile number (The number provided at the time of enrollment or updated subsequently.) in your Aadhaar using this update portal. You will received the OTP on your mobile phone please check your network connection and incoming facility, sometimes because of server issue it will take a while wait for some time then enter the OTP and click on login.
4 Click on "Update Demographics Data" button
After login in into Aadhaar self service portal you need to click on "Update Demographics Data" button to update your Aadhaar card address.
5 Select "Name"
After clicking on update demographic data you will be directed to the page where you need to select at least one field that you want to update you need to click on "Name" button as you want to change your name but remember you can then click on "Proceed" button.
6 Enter your new name
After selecting the field that you want to update you will be directed to update Aadhaar page where you will be required to enter your new name that you want add on your Aadhaar card. enter your new name.
7 Upload document
Now you need to upload then you need to upload the supporting document in which the name has to be matched with the new name that you have just entered. To upload new document you need to click on "upload document" please remember that the valid size is 2MB and the format of the document should be JPEG, PNG, PDF only. If you are uploading passport then you need to upload the front inner side contains your Name, Date of Birth and photo. After uploading the document you need to click on preview to review your application. You can check below given list of valid document that are acceptable for Aadhaar card updating. After clicking on preview button you will be directed to the review application page where you can check the name that you want to update is correct or not and the proof that you have uploaded has to be the correct one if you want to change in application you can click on "edit" button given on above of Captcha verification.
8 Enter OTP
After checking the details you will be required to enter captcha for verification the captcha image will be displaying adjacent to captcha reload button if you are unable to read the captcha or the captcha image is not displaying then you need to click on reload captcha image. After entering the correct captcha code click on "Send OTP" button. You will receive an OTP on you number please check the network connection and incoming facility. Please wait for some time to receive the OTP and after receiving the OTP enter the OTP and then click on check box to confirm that you have read the instructions carefully and then click on "Make payment" button
9 Make payment
After clicking on "Make payment" button you will be directed to payment page where you need to pay the charge to update the Aadhaar card which is 50rs you can pay the charge through internet banking or through your debit card or credit card.
10 Download application receipt
After paying the charges you will be directed to Acknowledgement receipt page where you need to download the Acknowledgement receipt in which an "Update request number"(URN) will be given to you, you can track Aadhaar update status using the URN.To track your Aadhaar card status you need to enter the Aadhaar card number then the URN that you have received at the time of updating Aadhaar number then you need to enter the captcha that is showing after filling all the details you need to click on "Send OTP" button you will receive the OTP on you registered mobile number you need to enter it then click on "Check Status" you will see the update status of your Aadhaar card.
11 Contact Support
Your Aadhaar will be generally updated in 15 days and if it's not updated within 15 days you can call Aadhaar customer care on "1947" or you can email on "help@uidai.gov.in".
